They are like generalized\nlinear models except that elements of the response vector can\nhave different families (e. g., some Bernoulli, some Poisson,\nsome zero-truncated Poisson, some normal) and can be dependent,\nthe dependence indicated by a graphical structure. Discrete\ntime survival analysis, life table analysis, zero-inflated\nPoisson regression, and generalized linear models that are\nexponential family (e. g., logistic regression and Poisson\nregression with log link) are special cases. Main use is for\ndata in which there is survival over discrete time periods and\nthere is additional data about what happens conditional on\nsurvival (e. g., number of offspring).  Uses the exponential\nfamily canonical parameterization (aster transform of usual\nparameterization). There are also random effects versions of\nthese models.",
